Claims Procedure

Our primary responsibility is to safeguard your interest as far as dealings with your insurer is

concerned.

It is for this reason why there is a need for Shield to be the first point of call in the event of any

happenings that might result in a loss.

These notes are intended as a general guide when initiating clams. All policies contain

conditions, which must be complied with before a claim can be admitted.

Responsibilities of claimants

● Completed claim form and supporting documents should be submitted

without delay to Shield. Late notification of claim is likely to prejudice your right of

recovery.

● In the event of a summons having been served, prompt notification must

be given to Shield and never admit liability for any incident or negotiate

with third parties.

● Retain damaged items/salvage for inspection by assessors.

● Notify the police in the event of death, riot or malicious damage and theft

Brokers’ Responsibilities

- We record all claims immediately they are reported and we provide comprehensive

statistics and analysis of all such losses as and when required.

- We arrange for assessors from the insurers as soon as possible.

- We negotiate and process claims to the receipt of relevant claim payment

MOTOR CLAIMS (STEPS TO FOLLOW)

1. Report all accident which involves 3rd parties to the police.

2. Do not admit/accept liability

3. Draft all documents to your insurers/Shield Insurance Brokers.

4. Notify Shield immediately and complete accident form

5. Obtain repair estimate from your preferred workshop to enable insurer determine its total

liability.

6. Send your repaired estimate to Shield promptly

7. An assessor from the insurance company will verify before authorization can be agreed on

8. After repair works (in the case of comprehensive), a discharge note is signed after which the

cheque is issued or a satisfaction note is signed before vehicle is released to the insured
